the silence in rajmachi

in rajmachi
the silence
manifests itself
in myriads of ways.

like a mountain
looming large,
the silence touches
your inner skies..

like the waterfall stains in the hills
which painfully awaits the monsoon
the silence strikes you with
the turbulent flow of old memories.

the silence rustles
the dry leaves in your heart
and keeps you wide awake.

the silence becomes
the sharp edged rock
that fill your narrow pathway,
any moment you may trip
and tumbledown to its depths.

on top of the old fort,
the silence hugs you
with its cool breeze hands
and your eyes,
otherwise blind with the city dust,
open their lids
to see the valleys within.

at night
the silence becomes
the starlit sky
and the funfilled laughter
of your companions around.

in the morning
the silence wakes up
along with
the dogs, the goats,
the hen and the people.

in the village square
of udayavadi
the silence fills the
bewildered eyes of the koli girl
who is returning
from the nearby lake
balancing the pots
brimming with water.

in rajmachi
all around, you hear
the echoes of silence.
and you return
boomeranged by its music.

i fell in love
with the silence in rajmachi
i brought back
a slice of it, along with me
i keep it locked within
lest it flow back to its abode.

  1. ..for a change, in english...with few friends went for trekking to rajmachi...rajmachi is a small hillock in the western ghats facing the konkan region in maharashtra..the place have two forts said to be constructed by shivaji..we spent a night there in a tribal village which is completely cut off from the outer world...for the people there it takes a 3 hour walk (very rough terrain) to reach the nearest town..for us it took more than 6 hours to reach the place :)
..and once you reach you are enveloped by the silence there..a very beautiful silence..
